Hall of Fame Selection Criteria

Purpose

The purpose of the Department of Athletics Guelph Gryphons Sports Hall of Fame is to recognize those individuals who have made a significant contribution to the athletic programs at the University of Guelph, and who, as a result of this contribution, have enhanced the image and reputation of the institution.

Criteria: Athletes

  1. The major factor for consideration for selection is the athlete's contribution to the University of Guelph's varsity athletic program, typically for a minimum of three years.
  2. Other factors which will be considered for selection include: the athlete's achievements in provincial, national and international athletic competitions while representing the University of Guelph; character; leadership; sportsmanship; non-athletic service to the University community; graduated; and achievement(s) in later life.
  3. Typically, consideration for selection will be given to an athlete following a minimum of a five-year absence from the varsity program prior to nomination.

Criteria: Builders

  1. A member of the University community who has made a significant contribution to athletics at the University of Guelph (other than as a student-athlete) for a minimum of five years.
  2. Typically, consideration for selection as a builder will not be given to an individual until ten years after their initial involvement/appointment.

Criteria: Teams

  1. Varsity championship status at the provincial, national and/or international level of competition.
  2. Typically, consideration for selection will be given to a team following a minimum of ten years after achieving their championship status.
