OAKVILLE, Ont. – For just the 10th time in University of Guelph history, a Guelph Gryphon student-athlete has been named 'OUA Athlete of the Year.' Olivia Rizakos, a standout forward on the Gryphons women's soccer team, has been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Women's Athlete of the Year for the 2025-26 season, with TMU Bold basketball player Aaron Rhooms taking home Athlete of the Year honours on the men's side. The conference-wide award was announced on Wednesday evening (May 13, 2026) at the OUA's year-end 'Honour Awards' banquet in Oakville. GUELPH, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons celebrated the best and brightest from a memorable 2024-25 season by holding the annual Gryphons Athletics Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. HAMILTON, Ont. – The Gryphons women's soccer team saw their 2025 season officially come to an end on Friday (Nov. 7) from Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton following an 1-0 defeat to the Cape Breton Capers in the U SPORTS Consolation semifinal match. HAMILTON, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons gave the two-time defending national champion UBC Thunderbirds all they could handle on Thursday afternoon (Nov. 6) in a quarterfinal matchup at the 2025 U SPORTS Women's Soccer Championships. Extra time would be needed to find a winner, as Guelph and UBC were tied 1-1 after 90 minutes of play. Late in the opening half of extra time, it would be UBC who would score the match-winner, on a goal from U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian midfielder, Sienna Gibson, propelling the reigning national champions from Vancouver to a 2-1 victory. With the win, UBC advances to the national semifinals where they will face the Laval Rouge et Or.
