GLASGOW, Scotland – The University of Guelph track and field program was well-represented at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, with four Gryphon student-athletes proudly representing Canada at the Games. The Commonwealth Games took place from July 23 to August 2 with Gryphon track and field standouts

Jennifer Elizarov | Women's Pole Vault
Jennifer Elizarov had great performance in her first Commonwealth Games. Elizarov finished 6th in the women's pole vault finals, clearing 4.10m in her first attempt from that height. Elizarov, who is a two-time Canadian champion in women's pole vault, recently graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in biomedical engineering. The 22-year-old from Waterloo had a decorated collegiate career with the Gryphons women's track and field team, where she was a four-time U SPORTS gold medalist in women's pole vault.
Gabrielle Cole | Women's 100m
Gabrielle Cole competed in the women's 100m where she had strong showing in Glasgow, winning her qualifying heat with a time of 11.48s to qualify for the semifinals. Cole in her semifinal heat finished in 6th place with a time of 11.44s as she missed out on qualifying for the finals. The 21-year-old sprinter from Ajax, Ontario is currently pursuing a degree in culture & technology studies from the University of Guelph. At the 2026 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships in Winnipeg in March, Gabrielle stole the spotlight with her performance in the Women's 60m, where she posted a blazing time of 7.20 to claim U SPORTS gold. The time was a personal best and broke her own school record.
Max Davies | Men's One Mile
Max Davies competed in the men's one mile race where he narrowly missed out on qualification for the finals, finishing a spot behind a top 6 qualifying spot in 7th place with a time of 4:01.42 in his qualifying heat.
Max Davies, a Canadian National Champion in the men's 1500m, is a two-time University of Guelph Men's Athlete of the Year, the 2024 OUA Athlete of the Year (across all sports) and a seven-time U SPORTS gold medalist. This past season, Max was named the
U SPORTS Track Athlete of the Year for his performances over the course of the 2025-26 season.
Nicole McKenzie | Women's 800m
Nicole McKenzie represented the Gryphons in the women's 800m as she just missed out on a top 3 finish in her heat to qualify for the semifinals, crossing the line in the 4th place in her heat with a time of 2:05.07. Nicole was named U SPORTS Women's Track Athlete of the Year for 2025-26 following her extraordinary season which saw her etch her name into the Canadian record books. McKenzie, a fifth-year history major at the University of Guelph, set a new all-time Canadian record in the women's 600m on January 30, 2026 in State College, PA as she clocked in with a time of 1:26.95 while competing at the Penn State National Open.
