LÉVIS, Que. – A total of five student-athletes from the Guelph Gryphons varsity golf program made their way to Lévis, Québec this week (June 16-19) to represent the University of Guelph at the 2026 Canadian University/College Championship, presented by BDO. The four-day national championship event was held at
La Tempête Golf Club, just south of Québec City, in what marked the 22nd playing of the Canadian University/College Championship, established in 2003 by Golf Canada to give the country's best university golfers a chance to compete at a national championship. The Gryphons women's golf team, represented by
Jacqueline Giles,
Ela Jones,
Ava Crane and
Kennedy Bergeron, recorded the best-ever team finish for a U of G women's golf team at nationals, with the Gryphons finishing in 7th, out of 12 schools, in the final team standings.
Jacqueline Giles, a recent U of G grad and molecular biology and genetics major, led the way for the Gryphons, finishing T-18 in a field of 51 golfers with rounds of 80, 75 and 80. Close behind Giles was her Gryphon teammate,
Ela Jones, with the microbiolgy major from Kincardine, Ontario finishing in 26th after posting rounds of 82, 80 and 83.
"I am so proud of our players," said University of Guelph head golf coach,
Brian Bard. "After a slow start in round one, they battled through tough conditions and multiple weather delays to post one of the best scores in the tournament in both the second and third rounds. This finish shows how far the women's team has progressed over the last three years."
On the men's side, the Gryphons were represented by
William Dodd, who earned a spot at nationals as a wildcard selection. Dodd, a third-year mechanical engineering major from Aurora, Ontario, finished T-48 in a field of 105 golfers after firing rounds of 74, 74 and 77. "For William to finish in the top half of the field on the men's side is a great accomplishment," added Gryphons head coach
Brian Bard. "He was steady all three rounds and his finish shows that he was deserving of the wildcard selection from Golf Canada." The UBC Okanagan Heat men's team captured their first national golf championship while the UBC Thunderbirds women's team continued their historic run winning their ninth straight national title.
