GUELPH, Ont. - The five-time defending OUA champion Guelph Gryphons men's rugby team improved to 5-0 on Friday night (Oct. 9) with a 71-19 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks at the University of Guelph's Varsity Field. The Gryphons had eight different players record tries on the night, with Jackson Priestman (3) and Liam Bowman (2) each recording multiple tries. Joshua Henry recorded seven converts, and the reigning national champion Gryphons moved one step closer to securing an opening round bye and homefield advantage throughout the OUA playoffs. With the loss on Friday night, the Laurier Golden Hawks fall to 3-2 on the season. The Gryphons (5-0) now have one game remaining in their six-game OUA regular season schedule, with the team returning to action on Sunday, October 18 in Hamilton when they take on the McMaster Marauders (1-2-1). With a win over McMaster on October 18, Guelph would lock up the top overall seed in the OUA and secure homefield advantage in the OUA playoffs as they pursue a program-record sixth consecutive conference title.
