GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons women's basketball team wins their 14th game of the season as they defeat the Laurier Golden Hawks 63-49 from the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre on Wednesday night (Jan. 21). Guelph was in control of the game throughout the night as they were in the lead for the majority of the game, only trailing once when Laurier was leading 3-0. The Gryphons defence led the way with another impressive performance, holding the Golden Hawks to 30.6% shooting from the field and had 15 steals while forcing 23 turnovers. The Gryphs also found their shooting touch from the three-point line, making 10 of their 19 threes. For the second straight game,
Hannah Bourdon and
Christina Morra each had a double-double in the win. Bourdon, the fourth-year guard led the way with 20 points, 11 rebound and 6 steals. Morra, the Mississauga native finished the night with 11 points and 10 rebounds for her 7th double-double on the season.
Sarah Metwally scored 10 points off the bench in the victory.
The Gryphons with the win improves to 14-3 on the regular season as they maintain their lead at the top of the OUA West division. Guelph will be back in action next weekend for a weekend road trip up north when they take on the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay (Jan. 30) before making their way to Sudbury to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs (Jan. 31).
