FB: Luke Korol Named Second Team All-Canadian

QUEBEC CITY, Que. - Gryphons' fifth-year linebacker Luke Korol played at an All-Canadian level throughout the entire 2018 season. Thursday night in Quebec City, the Dundas, Ontario native received some much-deserved national recognition. Korol, a 6-0, 205 lbs outside linebacker with the Gryphons, was named a U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian. The announcement was made Thursday evening at the Vanier Cup awards gala in Quebec City. Korol becomes just the 19th defensive player in U of G history to earn All-Canadian status, and the first since former teammate Nick Parisotto in 2015.

Korol was nothing short of spectacular in his senior season with the Gryphons, leading the entire country in tackles (9.3 per game) and serving as the heart and soul of a dominating Gryphon defence that limited opponents to just 21.9 points per game (3rd-ranked scoring defence in the OUA). Korol's 74.5 tackles during the regular season not only was the highest total in all of U SPORTS, it also established a new single-season school record for the Gryphons. The Dundas native recorded three sacks, 8.5 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and an interception, while helping lead the Gryphons to the 111th Yates Cup where they fell to the top-ranked Western Mustangs, who will face Laval on Saturday in the 54th Vanier Cup.

Aside from announcing the 2018 All-Canadian selections on Thursday, the 2018 U SPORTS football major award winners were also recognized, with Calgary Dinos quarterback Adam Sinagara taking home national player of the year honours as the Hec Crighton winner.
