Week 8 OUA Players of the Week
Offence: Alex Taylor (Running Back, Western)
Defence: Lamar Foyle (Linebacker, Toronto)
Special Teams: Gabe Ferraro (Kicker, Guelph)
Gabe Ferraro's illustrious university kicking career is nearing an end. And the two-time All-Canadian is not going out quietly. On Saturday, Ferraro accounted for 22 of his team's 46 points in a 46-8 win over the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues. Gabe was a perfect 6-for-6 on field goals, with makes of 25, 34, 43, 13, 15 & 26-yards, respectively. It marks just the second time in his decorated career that he has connected on at least six field goals in a single game. The only other time came a season ago when Ferraro went a perfect 7-for-7 on field goals versus Carleton in the final week of the 2017 regular season to establish a new U SPORTS single-season record with 33 made field goals.
Through seven games this season, Ferraro is tied for the OUA-lead with 18 made field goals. For his career, the Mississauga native now has 87 made field goals, leaving him just four back of matching the U SPORTS all-time regular season record (set by Calgary's Johhny Mark, 2011-2015). Gabe will look to challenge that record this Saturday (Oct. 13) when the Gryphons host the Warriors in their regular season finale.
