BURLINGTON - Another Guelph Gryphon football player has garnered a conference-wide award this week. Ontario University Athletics announced that Gryphons' running back Johnny Augustine has been named the OUA Offensive Player of the Week after producing one of the best games in his distinguished career Saturday.

Augustine, a fifth-year running back from Welland, ON, played the role of hero in the Gryphons' dramatic, come-from-behind 53-49 win over Waterloo at Warrior Field. He carried the ball 18 times for 96 yards, with one catch for 16 yards, while tying his single-game career high of three touchdowns. Augustine's first two scores of the day came in the third quarter just 36 seconds apart, on rushes from one and three yards out. Those touchdowns helped Guelph get right back into a game that they trailed by 20 points. The third touchdown was the real difference-maker, and a potentially season-changing moment for the Gryphons. With Guelph down 49-46 in the dying moments of the game, Augustine took a handoff on second and short, went left and then cut back to the right, outracing Waterloo defenders to the end zone for a 22-yard touchdown with just 22 seconds left on the clock.

Augustine leads the OUA with eight rushing touchdowns and after Saturday's memorable performance, he moved into third on the all-time Gryphons' rushing list with 2,429 yards in his career. He's the second Guelph player to earn OUA Offensive Player of the Week this season. Teammate Zeph Fraser took the honours in week 2 after recording eight catches for 143 yards and two touchdowns on the road against Western.
