The Gryphon figure skating team found the podium Friday (Jan. 30) evening, earning an overall team bronze medal at the Toronto Invitational. The team was fourth after the first day of competition and was able to skate their way to a third place finish in an extremely close competition. The second day of competition included five lead changes between five teams (with only eight events in the day).
The second day of competition was highlighted by medal performances in four of the eight events skated. Veteran Kelsey Sobkowich skated a flawless short program earning her a bronze medal. Sobkowich would later skate with veteran partner Leeann Duncan in the senior similar pairs event where they finished second. The pair were joined by veteran Mackenzie Wilson and rookie Julia Cenedese in the pairs fours event where the team would capture another silver medal. The Gryphon team would bring home one more silver medal in the men's event where Francis Adamo would finish second.
The Gryphon team finished the two day event with a total of 57 points, bringing home the bronze medal. The team will be looking to continue this momentum into the OUA championships at home on February 17
