Track & Field Recap: Fred Foot Classic (U of T)


Toronto, Ont. - University of Guelph track and field athletes won 11 events at this Saturday's (Jan. 17) Fred Foot Classic.  Headlining the wins was Ross Proudfoot, who dominated the men's 1500 metres winning in a time of 3 minutes 48.64 seconds, the top time in the CIS this year.   The Gryphons also scored wins in the men's and women's 60 metres with Kristian Benjamin winning the men's race in 7.02 and Simone Mallett-Forde winning the women's in 7.93.  Emily Bowerman and Jackson Cheung swept the 60 hurdle races, Bowerman taking the women's in 9.11 seconds, with Cheung winning the men's in 8.44.  The Gryphons also swept the long jump titles with Celina Decarlois taking the women's in 5.33 metres and Mitchell Torres winning the men's in 6.64 metres, Torres added another win in the men's high jump with a best jump of 1.96 metres. Other Gryphon winners were Tommy Land (men's 600 metres), Nick Holden (men's 1000 metres) and Mikaela Vandenheuvel (women's triple jump). The Gryphons are back in action this weekend at the McGill Team Challenge in Montreal, Quebec and the New Balance Games in New York City, NY.
