The Guelph Gryphon men's soccer team defeated the visiting Waterloo Warriors today 5-0 at the Gryphon Soccer Complex. The victory moves the Gryphons to 6-1-1 on the season while the Warriors drop to 0-8-1.

The Gryphons applied pressure to the Warriors defence right from the get go. The early pressure paid off in the sixth minute when midfielderÂ
Ethan Danielli (Guelph, Ont.) potted his second goal of the year after a beautiful pass from Mike Bijman.

Coach Keith Mason substituted strikerÂ
Jamie Wilcock (Aurora, Ont.) midway through the first half and that move paid off in a big way in the 42nd minute as Wilcock scored his first goal of the year.

The Gryphons defence led byÂ
Justin Springer (Burlington, Ont.) had a particularly strong opening half, holding the Warriors to zero shots.

Guelph continued their strong play to start the second half, applying consistent pressure to the Warriors. The Gryphons dictated the play, maintaining possession in the Warriors end for the better part of the game.Â
Michael Bijman (Brantford, Ont.)  had been all over the pitch throughout the match and was finally rewarded for his strong play in the 65th minute as he put home the Gryphon's third goal of the match off a rebound.

In the 74th minute Gryphon strikerÂ
Robert Murphy (Ottawa) was taken down in the box and awarded a penalty kick. Murphy converted the penalty to make the score 4-0 Gryphons.

The Gryphons cemented the victory with their fifth goal of the match when second half substituteÂ
Jared Agyemang scored in the 82nd minute. The game ended in a dominating 5-0 victory for Guelph.

The Gryphons will play again Saturday (Sept. 28) at home, hosting the Brock Badgers at 3:15pm.
