Guelph, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons men's soccer team defeated the visiting UOIT Ridgeback's Sunday 5-1 at the Gryphon Soccer Complex. The Gryphons move to 5-1-2 on the season while the Ridgeback's fall to 1-6-1.

The Ridgeback's opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a free kick. Despite the early setback the Gryphons were all over the Ridgeback's putting pressure on their defense early and often.Â

Timothy Flynn both had great chances early in the match, with Flynn's effort barely missing the far post. Guelph finally evened the score after a beautiful cross sent in byÂ

Justin Springer in the 35th minute. Shortly thereafter Guelph'sÂ
Robert Murphy put the Gryphons ahead 2-1 on a beautiful free kick from just outside the box. Murphy struck the ball just over the Ridgeback wall and into the top corner. The half ended with the Gryphon's up 2-1. Guelph generated a lot of their offense from corners as they had nine in the first half alone.

The Gryphons continued to apply pressure to the Ridgeback's in the second half.Â
Michael Bijman nearly added to the Gryphon's lead as he hit the post in the 66th minute.

In the 71st minute Robbie Murphy tallied another goal on a penalty kick. Guelph was awarded the penalty kick after midfielderÂ
Paris Roserie was taken down in the box after a beautiful run.

In the 86th minute Tim Flynn scored on a header to make it 4-1 Gryphons. Murphy netted his third of the match in the 90th minute to complete the hat trick.
