The Guelph Gryphon women's hockey team extended their winning streak to 12 and took down the OUA leading Laurier Golden Hawks today at the Gryphon Centre 3-2. Â
The Gryphons are now tied with Queens for second place in the OUA with a 19-3-2, the Golden Hawks keep their top spot with a 20-2-3 record.Â

The Gryphons were looking to avenge their close 4-3 overtime loss against the Golden Hawks from their last match in November. Since then, the Gryphons have won 12 of their 13 games, coming into today's game with an 11-game win-streak.

Laurier's Lauren Blair (Burlington, ON) opened the scoring at 12:19 with a breakaway straight out of the penalty box. Her goal was assisted by teammate, Candice Styles (Orangeville, ON). The Gryphons answered the Laurier goal whenÂ

Emily Corbett (Toronto, ON), at 14:36. The score at the end of the first period remained tied at one. Shots were 9-6 in favour of Laurier.

The second period was filled with exciting end-to-end action and many close scoring opportunities for both teams. However, neither team was able to capitalize until 19:05 when, Gryphon's center,Â
Hillary Walsh (Nepean, ON) netted an exciting backhand, power play goal on Laurier's screened goaltender. Walsh's goal was assisted byÂ
Amanda Parkins (Kitchener, ON) and goaltender,
Stephanie Nehring (Oshawaw, ON). Laurier was unable to squeak the puck past Nehring in the second period. Shots were 7-6 in favour of Guelph.Â

The third period had fans on the edge of their seats while the rival teams played fast-paced, exciting hockey.  Laurier was able to tie the game at two when Devon Skeats (Whitby, ON) scored a power play goal from Haley Baxter (Waterloo, ON) at 10:31. The score remained tied and tension was thick until 19:23 when Gryphon Center,Â
Averi Nooren (Aylmer, ON) scored a beautiful goal at the corner of the net with assists from Pinkerton andÂ
Kimberley Wong (Mississauga, ON) to secure a 3-2 victory over the Golden Hawks.
