University of Guelph Gryphon hockey players Amanda Parkins and Nick Huard are this week's Gryphon Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 27.
Amanda Parkins, Women's Hockey
First year centre Amanda Parkins of Kitchener, Ont. notched two goals and two assists as the CIS No. 8 Guelph Gryphons defeated the No. 6 Queens Gaels 7-2 on Saturday at the Gryphon Centre. The Sociology major tallied two power play goals and assisted on two regular strength goals in the Gryphons 11th straight win. She currently sits first in OUA scoring and is second in CIS scoring with 41 points in 23 games. The Gryphons sit second in the OUA standings with a 18-3-2 record and host the top ranked Laurier Golden Hawks this Sunday at the Gryphon Centre.
Nick Huard, Men's Hockey
Rookie centre Nick Huard from North Bay, Ont. notched five goals in leading the Guelph Gryphons men's hockey team in two big victories this past week. On Thursday he scored the winning goal and the insurance goal in a 4-0 win over the York Lions at the Gryphon Centre. The Arts major then followed up the next night with a hat-trick, scoring one goal in each period including the winner in the third period in a 3-2 win over the Brock Badgers on Friday night in St. Catharine's. The Gryphons are sitting third in the OUA West with a 15-7-2 record and host the second place Windsor Lancers this Saturday at the Gryphon Centre.
