The Guelph Gryphon men's hockey team has officially announced that goalie Brandon Maxwell has signed with a professional hockey team based in Russia. Maxwell a first year player from Guelph, Ont. will now be playing professional hockey in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), an international league.
Maxwell played in 14 games with the Gryphons and recorded a save percentage of 0.935 and a goals against average of 1.92. He tallied 10 wins and only three losses.
The goaltending duties will now be handed over to third year Andrew Loverock. Loverock saw most of his playing time for the Gryphons in his rookie season, 2010-11 where he played in 16 games and had a .904 save percentage and a 8-7-1 record.
"It is the goal of all of our players to have the opportunity to play pro hockey after school and Brandon has a great offer to play in Russia and we wish him the best of luck and appreciate his contribution while has been here," said head coach Shawn Camp.
