The Gryphon women's soccer squad shutout the Lancers 2-0, under soggy skies this afternoon (Sept. 22) at Alumni Field in Windsor.
 
The win advances the Gryphons to 3-1-2 in OUA West standings and drops the Lances to 0-5-2.
 
Both teams struggled with the wet field in the first half, but play was evenly matched. The Gryphons opened the scoring in the 29th minute, with a goal from Alexandra Harriss (Dundas, ON).
 
The first half of the match ended in Guelph's favour; the Lancers tried to fight back unable to convert many close encounters at the net.
 
At the 49^th minute of the second half, rookie striker Kaitlin Mulholland (Burlington, ON) added the Gryphons' insurance goal, putting the girls up 2-0. As the sun started to peek through the clouds, the game once again became evenly matched and the Lancers started to show a presence on Guelph's side of the field. However, with no one able to score for the Lancers the game ended with a final score of 2-0 for the Gryphons.
 
The Gryphons will be back in action Sunday, September 23, when they take on the Mustangs in London. Game time is set for 1PM.
