The Gryphon women's hockey team capped off a winning weekend this afternoon, defeating Toronto 3-2 at Gryphon Centre.

With the win, the Gryphons jump to 9-3-2, while Toronto drops to 8-4-1 on the season.

The Varsity Blues opened the scoring mid-way through the first period. Jacqueline Scheffel (Waubaushene, Ont.) combined with Amanda Ricker (Ottawa) and Callie Bazak (Peterborough, Ont.), notching a powerplay goal at 13:49.

The Gryphons dominated the second period, scoring two quick goals to take back the lead.

Kaitlyn Mora (Guelph, ON) fired off a shot fed to her byÂ
Jenna Lanzarotta (Mississauga, ON) to score the equalizer for Guelph at 0.29. Shortly after,Â
Amanda Parkins showed off her puck handling skills and recorded her ninth goal of the season, assisted by Lanzarotta andÂ
Jessica Pinkerton (Oshawa, ON), to increase the score to 2-1.

In the third period, Guelph continued to control the game, forcing numerous turnovers in the natural zone and attacking the Toronto net.

Tamara Bell (Guelph, ON) deked past the Blues' defense and tucked the puck in the netminder's 5-hole to extend the Gryphon lead to 3-1. Lanzoratta and Mora each earned assists on the play.

Late in the third, Toronto's Bazak, with help from April Loojie (Mississauga, ON) scored, cutting into Guelph's lead, but the Gryphons were determined to win and took the game 3-2.

Brooke Siddall recorded 15 saves in the win. Shots on net were 30 for Guelph and 17 for Toronto.

The Gryphons will look to continue their home ice dominance when the host the Badgers Wednesday, November 21. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
