GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphon men's and women's wrestling teams combined with the Guelph Wrestling Club both captured first place overall at the Guelph Open featuring 29 total teams held at the W.F. Mitchell Centre this past weekend.
The Gryphon women, who are ranked No. 3 in the CIS totaled three top five performances. Second year Kelsey Gsell (Saskatoon, SK) grabbed a silver medal in the women's 82kg weight class. Gryphon veteran and all-Canadian Allison Leslie (Fergus, Ont.) was third in the women's 67kg. And rookie Madison Parks (Brantford, Ont.) finished with an impressive fifth place in just her first year with the Gryphons.
The Gryphon men who are ranked No. 8 in the CIS were led by third year Jake Jagas (Kitchener, Ont.) finishing sixth overall in the men's 75kg weight class.
The Gryphons next action is at the Western Open on January 28.
