WRESTLING - Annual Guelph Open Wrestling Tournament slated for this weekend
 
GUELPH, Ont. - The annual Guelph Open Wrestling Tournament will take place at the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre this Saturday, January 21, 2012.  Wrestling is slated to start at 9:00 a.m. in the main gym.  
 
The tournament will once again draw some of the top wrestlers from North America.
 
The Gryphons are expecting roughly five members of both the men's and women's team to compete in the tournament and also a number of Guelph Wrestling Club members.
 
Highlighting the Gryphon men's team will be 2011 OUA 66kg silver medalist Kevin Iwasa-Madge (Milton, Ont.), third-year Jacob Jagas (Kitchener, Ont.) who is the reigning OUA champion in the 74 kg weight class and third year Mathieu Deschatelets (Sturgeon Falls, Ont.) who won an OUA silver last year in the 84kg weight class.
 
The Gryphon women's team will have a number of wrestlers to watch out for including veteran Allison Leslie (Fergus, Ont.) in the 67kg weight class.  The 2011 first team All-Canadian will be looking to continue her great season from last year, which saw her finish with a CIS gold in the 67kg weight class.
 
Other Gryphons to keep an eye on include second year Kelsey Gsell (Saskatoon, Ont.) in the 72kg event, rookie Madison Parks (Brantford, Ont.) making her Guelph debut and wrestling for the 51kg title and lastly 2011 CIS rookie of the year Jade Papke(Mississauga, Ont.) in the 48kg event.
 
Final results will be posted on the CAWA website http://www.wrestling.ca/.  Finals for the tournament will approximately take place at 5:00 p.m. in the main gym of the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre.
