The women's basketball team opened the Ryerson Tournament this afternoon with a 76-71 loss to the University of Calgary Dinos.
Down five at the half the Gryphons got within two and had to foul at the end. Five Gryphon players registered double figures led by Ali Dzikowksi (Brantford, Ont.) who knotched a double-double with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jasmine Douglas (Guelph, Ont.) and Chelsea Kane (Ingersoll, Ont.) scored 14 and 12 respectively while Sam Russell (Paradise Valley, AZ) and Kara Muhlhausen (Belleville, Ont.) tallied 10 apiece. The Gryphons played without Kayla Goodhoofd who was taken to the hospital before leaving Guelph with an appendicitis attack.
The Gryphons will play again tomorrow (Oct. 16) at 1:00 p.m. against the loser of the Toronto and Saskatchewan game.
